Trade-Up Tuesday - Part 10

As expected and as has been the case with the most recent bottles being offered, the buzz was crazy. So many offers coming through and so many great conversations I was able to have with y’all.

As I mentioned in previous posts, the trades are starting to get a little more complicated to break down into parts, but here’s the best I can do. Many folks are also visual learners and don’t read my captions so these may start to look a little messy in the next few weeks.

Anyways, here we go: Elmer T Lee for the new Orphan Barrel - Fable & Folly. I felt this was a great trade both ways. The person receiving the ETL was super pumped and that made my day. The second portion (completely separate) had me trading away an EH Taylor Single Barrel and a regular bottle of Buffalo Trace for a Blanton’s Store Pick and an Eagle Rare Store Pick. This trade works as well. Both happy parties and here I am with more “trade bait”.

Trade-Up Tuesday - Part 9

Part 9 - Booker’s 2021-01, Four Roses Barrel Strength OBSK NC Pick and Buffalo Trace…what could this possibly land in a Trade-Up format? Well, this is another example where I had to split up the lot to get a better deal in place. While I feel the JTS Brown to these three was a win in itself, I had to keep this going. Let’s get to the first part of this trade:

While I understand this is a “Trade Up” project, I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to obtain a rare bottle even though the retail value is half of what the Booker’s is. So, Booker’s for Elmer T Lee was a done deal. I also knew the Elmer would fetch a great trade next week.

Second part of this week’s reveal was the Four Roses Barrel Strength. Again, looking at the bigger picture and the allure of the Yellow Tube, I pulled the trigger on an EH Taylor Single Barrel. A pretty even trade based on retail and just more play for the next week.

I ended up hanging on to the Buffalo Trace for the time being as a possible kicker if I needed it in future trades.

Nose: Raisin Bran Cereal, Cinnamon and Apples

Palate: Slight touch of cocoa, Vanilla Bean and Apple Cider

Finish: Warm, Medium Linger

Overall: I was quite impressed with this Wheated Mash from Shady Mile. I always do my best to look past the age when I'm trying them for the first time as each product differs quite a bit. Sure, the initial taste was youthful, but after sipping a few more times, the flavors start to show their identity. The Apple Cider tone I mentioned in the review was a great treat. This is a very easy sipping wheater with a lot of pop. I'm always curious to see what a little more time in a barrel would do, but for now, a nice one especially at this price range.
